Berlin Philharmonic

String Section of the Berlin Philharmonic?

I was listening to recordings of the Berlin Philharmonic under Herber von Karajan (people might call him commercial or cocky or whatever, but at least he was good at doing his best as a conductor LOL), and WOW! WHAT A POWERFUL STRING SECTION!
What were the factors? Was the Berlin Philharmonic particularly renowned for the string section that it had or something?
(P.S. I noticed that most Berlin Philharmonic stuff under von Karajan had the "powerful" string sound)

There are a lot of factors that go into a powerful string section. partly with the Berlin Phil, you have one of the top orchestras in the world filled with some of the top orchestral players, then you have them playing in one of the acoustically best halls in the world. then you have an orchestra that is all playing on very fine instruments.
The conductor here is a big part too, Karajan general didn't hold anything back, he like to go full force from start to finish with very high energy.

the biggest factor here is that you have a whole orchestra that is really attuned to everyone else in the orchestra and everyone is responding and playing collectively. sometimes in lesser orchestra's you have a a collection of fine players, who just happen to be playing the same notes at the same time instead of really listening to each other.
