I want to join the Royal Marines band?
Hi my name is Debbie Im 21 this year and I have decided I want to try my luck in the Royal Marines band.
I have always wanted to be a musician and had dreams of joining the London Philharmonic Orchestra but I am far to young I think for that.
The problem is I dont really know much about the whole process and what is required (apart fomr being fit and healthy and having to know about music lol)
Here is what I can play and what grades I am at.
Clarinet - Grade 8
Piano - Grade 8
Cello - Grade 6
Guitar - No grade but proficient
Flute - Grade 5
Does anyone have any more information which could help me since I live quite far from a careers office!

First of all let me stress to get your app in fast as possible as there iss only 1 intake a year which is in September.
My mate is in the RMBS and I to was going to apply if I failed my application for the Royal Marines.
You are more than qualified to pass the selection if you are at grade 8
You need to pass the recruiting test, Selection Interview and medical.
The PJFT is 1.5 miles in 12 mins 20 secs for under ages 27
Instead of a PRMC the musicians undergo a 5 day audition at the Royal Marines School of music at the Naval base in Portsmouth The audition also includes dental checks & a physical fitness assessment.
Musician training is 2 years 8 months long!
You will have to do a aural test (which you will have done before!)
The questions are like this
- Describing 6 intervals
- Writing the second of two pitches (6 examples)
- A simple 4 bar melodic dictation.
- A 4 bar rhythmic dictation (simple or compound)
- Describing two cadences.
- Describing 6 triads as major or minor.
