Do I need to apply a protective coating on top of solid color wood stain?
I'm using Behr solid color wood stain on my deck. According to the can it's supposed to last five years. Do I need to apply anything else on top of it like a polyurethane or Thompson's, or should the Behr be enough?
It's a big deck and I'm doing the work by myself and I just want the finish to last!
If the Behr wood stain does NOT say to put a top coat on it then you shouldn't have to. However, in my experience, its a LOT of work to stain a large deck and if you dont want to do it again soon I would put a clear polyurethane on top. This will give it a little shine and make the stain underneath stay beautiful for years.
